Financial Aid

If you are facing a financial hardship, then no more than once a year you can receive financial assistance from the Trade Union.

Financial Aid in Case of Difficult Life Circumstances

Documents required to apply for assistance:

  • Informational statement from the company indicating the period of the last employment contract and the term of the next one, with the name of the planned vessel and the length of service in the company;
  • A document confirming a difficult financial situation (hospital reference, receipts for medicines, Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, etc.);
  • Seafarer’s Service Record Book;
  • Passport of a citizen of Ukraine (If you have an ID-card, attach a registration certificate of the individual's residence place / stay);
  • Taxpayer Identification Number;
  • Union Membership Card;
  • UAH Account Details (for the seafarer's name).

Compensation of Expenses for Recovery

Under the joint program of the MTWTU and LBSTUS, a MTWTU seafarer may receive partial reimbursement of the costs of sanatorium treatment received in the territory of Ukraine.

Documents required to apply for reimbursement:

  • Informational statement from the company indicating the period of the last employment contract and the term of the next one, with the name of the planned vessel and the length of service in the company;
  • Seafarer’s Service Record Book;
  • Original receipt for treatment;
  • Reverse ticket to the voucher or sanatorium book;
  • Passport of a citizen of Ukraine (If you have an ID-card, attach a registration certificate of the individual's residence place / stay);
  • Taxpayer Identification Number;
  • Union Membership Card;
  • Children’s Birth Certificate (if applying for partial reimbursement of the costs of sanatorium treatment of children).
  • UAH Account Details (for the seafarer's name).

Financial Assistance for the Child's Birth

Documents required to apply for assistance:

  • Informational statement from the company indicating the period of the last employment contract and the term of the next one, with the name of the planned vessel and the length of service in the company;
  • Children’s Birth Certificate*;
  • Seafarer’s Service Record Book;
  • Passport of a citizen of Ukraine (If you have an ID-card, attach a registration certificate of the individual's residence place / stay);
  • Taxpayer Identification Number;
  • Union Membership Card;
  • UAH Account Details (for the seafarer's name).

* No more than 6 months should pass from the date of issuance of the child's birth certificate to the date of application for assistance.

Financial Assistance for the Burial of a Relative

Documents required to apply for assistance:

  • Informational statement from the company indicating the period of the last employment contract and the term of the next one, with the name of the planned vessel and the length of service in the company;
  • Death Certificate*;
  • Seafarer’s Service Record Book;
  • Passport of a citizen of Ukraine (If you have an ID-card, attach a registration certificate of the individual's residence place / stay);
  • Taxpayer Identification Number;
  • Union Membership Card;
  • UAH Account Details (for the seafarer's name).

* No more than 6 months should pass from the date of issuance of the certificate to the date of application for assistance.

In case a MTWTU seafarer requires expensive medical treatment, he or she can also apply to the Union for financial assistance or partial reimbursement of medical expenses. The amount of assistance depends on many factors, including Trade Union experience, frequency of applications for assistance, active participation in the Trade Union movement and the causes of financial crisis in the family.
